Josh Turner’s “Hometown Girl” claims the top of both the Country Aircheck country singles chart this week. The song, from his new album Deep South, was one he definitely wanted to record after hearing it for the first time.
“I first heard the song at my producer’s house – Kenny Greenburg – and I was kind of looking for some different kind of stuff that I hadn’t really done before, and ‘Hometown Girl’ kind of fit that mold. Even before I knew the lyrics, I had that melody stuck in my head. It’s such a catchy melody. When I really got to digging into what the lyrics were saying, I loved the message in the song a nd I just felt like my female fan base would really get this song and relate to this song. I felt like the guys in my fan base, I feel like that’s the kind of girl they’re looking for or either they have already. So, I just felt like it was a good message to put out there and just a great song to give me kind of the opportunity to shake things up production-wise, so . . .”
“Hometown Girl” is Josh’s first chart-topping hit since “All Over Me” hit Number One in 2010.
Brad Paisley continues shooting videos for the songs on his brand new album, Love And War, which was just released on Friday (April 21st). His latest video is for the album’s title track, which he co-wrote with John Fogerty. The two filmed the clip together in San Diego in front of the famed kissing statue, “Unconditional Surrender” and on the USS Midway, the longest serving Navy aircraft carrier of the 20th century. Throughout the video shoot, Paisley and Fogerty honor veterans from all branches of the military.
There’s no telling when Sam Hunt‘s sophomore album will be ready for fans. He has been writing for several months, but as he tells us, his process is a little bit different than most and definitely more time-consuming.
“Even though I’m doing a lot of writing I’m not necessarily always writing on songs that I’m gonna put out for a record, and so I spend a lot of time working on it. I’ll write, like, a lot of times just write, not in the form of a song, just write thoughts and come up with topics or subjects or ideas so (I) just write about it, and so I have just tons of that piled up and so I put in a lot of time and a lot of times I’ll come out with a couple songs and I’ve been writing for like months and it’s like, ‘Well, how do you not have more songs?’ It’s like, ‘Well, a lot of that was for me more than it was a record, but within that process I’ve found that a lot of times I’ll find revelations or thoughts or lyrics or ideas that I can take and turn them into songs, so it does work out.”
In the meantime, Sam claims the Number One spot on the Billboard country chart this week with “Body Like A Backroad,” the debut single from his upcoming album.
