SYRACUSE – Goat showmen offered advice on show ring achievement at the Otoe County Fair Thursday.
Anne Bennier and Kirsten Schutz were the top senior showman out of nine exhibitors.
13-year-old Jacob Schutz of Otoe was the top intermediate showman and Valerie Bennie was reserve.
He talked about Judge John Neary’s comments.
Schutz: “He liked that I had my goat set up and I was always on the right side of it when he was looking at it.”
Neary also spoke with Clover Kids showman, including McKenna and Barrett Schmitt.
Neary: “Does your goat have a name?
… What’s your goat’s name?
Jumper? Now, wonder why his name is jumper. I’ve got to ask the question why did you name him Jumper?
Barrett: “Because he jumped over Rosie.”
Nine-year-old Makayla Bennie of Nebraska City earned a junior showmanship trophy.
Bennie: “You always look at the judge.
Did your goat behave in there?
Yeah, he did.”
