HASTINGS, Neb. – Nothing came easy for the #6 Auburn softball team in their second game of the day Thursday, falling to #4 Arlington, 10-4. With the loss, the Bulldogs were eliminated from the Class C State Tournament and finished the season 25-10.
The Eagles took an early lead in the second inning when Macy Rosenthal doubled on a 0-1 count, scoring one run. They took the lead for good on a grand slam from senior pitcher Alexa Brenn in the third.
Brenn also got the win for the Eagles. The starting pitcher tossed a complete game, allowing four runs and nine hits while striking out three.
Sophomore Macy Rieschick took the loss for Auburn. She surrendered five runs on five hits over two innings, striking out one and walking zero.
The Bulldogs finished with nine hits, including two home runs. Junior Mollie Grant and freshman Kylie Allen each hit shots over the wall. Allen finished with two hits and senior Brittany Bradshaw added a couple of hits.
Taylor Wakefield added a home run for Arlington. The Eagles finished with 12 hits.
Four RBI Day For Mollie Grant Spells Out Victory For Auburn Over Fillmore Central/Exeter-Milligan
HASTINGS, Neb. – Junior shortstop Mollie Grant would not be denied at the plate when runners were on base during the first round consolation game at the Class C State Softball Tournament in Hastings. She drove in four runs on two hits to lead Auburn past Fillmore Central/Exeter-Milligan, 15-4, on Thursday morning. Grant drove in runs on a double in the first and a home run in the fourth.
Auburn’s five runs in the second inning helped extend the lead. Senior Bailey Arban doubled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run; senior Kylie Stutheit’s sac fly scored another run; and senior Meg Rieschick homered on a 0-1 count, scoring three runs.
Sophomore Macy Rieschick went four and a third innings, allowing three runs on seven hits, striking out five in the win.
Jacy Schlueter took the loss for the Panthers. She allowed eight hits and eight runs over two and a third innings, striking out one.
Along with Grant’s home run, Rieschick and freshman Kylie Allen each added a long ball. The Bulldogs racked up 15 hits. Arban went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead the Bulldogs.
Fillmore Central/Exeter-Milligan tallied seven hits in the game. Sydney Schelkopf and Alexis Schmidt all collected multiple hits.
The Panthers were eliminated from the tournament and finished the season 17-11.
