Auburn Girls Basketball Coach Resigns to Take Job in Kansas

AUBURN – Auburn High School will now be looking for a new girls basketball coach after a late resignation.

Derek Bissitt told the district at the end of May that he would leave Auburn to take a job teaching and coaching basketball in Leavenworth, Kansas.

He led the Auburn girls to their first 20-win season in school history in his lone season as girls coach.

Bissitt, a social studies teacher at Auburn, coached the boys team until Jim Weeks took over last season.

The Auburn school board elected not to formally accept his resignation on Monday night because the board believed he resigned too late. Bissitt verbally told the district on May 31st and sent a formal letter on June 1st.

Still, the board believes Bissitt will head to Kansas.

Auburn already had to replace their middle/high school principal and athletic director over the last few months.
