Auburn junior Ashley Teten starting to click during important month for the Bulldogs
Auburn junior Ashley Teten scored 19 points in Tuesday's win over Falls City.

AUBURN, Neb. – A full-court press from the Auburn High School girls basketball team held Falls City to just three first half points on Tuesday and only 20 points for the entire game.

At the top of the zone press: Ashley Teten.

The 5’9″ junior scored 19 points to help the Class C1 #10 team improve to 8-3 this season with a 50-20 win over their sub-district rivals Tuesday night at Auburn High School.

Head coach Grant Cole says not only can she shoot the ball from the inside and outside, her role on defense has been huge.

“She does such a good job, when you talk about our full-court pressure, at the top of that full-court press. She causes havoc and when we can get some steals, she’s great at turning that into points on the other end.”

The Bulldogs aren’t the biggest team in southeast Nebraska, so Teten and fellow junior, 5’10” Sydnie Reeves, battle “the bigs” night-in and night-out, according to Cole. The first-year head coach says their defense is predicated on the whole team, making switches and getting backside help.

Auburn will play their second straight Class C1-1 opponent on Friday night when they travel to Fairbury to play the 6-7 Jeffs. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m. and will be carried on B103 (103.1 FM, b103.fm).
