Auburn wins third straight district title, opens state tournament with defending champs

LOUISVILLE – The Auburn softball team fired up the offense in the first inning on an RBI single from Kylie Allen and the Bulldogs won their third straight Class C1 district title 11-1 over Syracuse Friday at Ash Grove Softball Complex in Louisville.

Auburn notched five more runs in the second inning on RBI’s from Mollie Grant, Leah Grant and Jaeleigh Heck.

Auburn finished with nine total hits. Mollie and Leah Grant, and Allen each had two hits.

Macy Rieschick allowed just two hits and one run over the four innings. She struck out three in the victory.

The Bulldogs improve to 25-3 and will open the Nebraska School Activities Association State Softball Tournament on Wednesday against the defending champions No. 4 Bishop Neumann (23-8). The Cavaliers defeated Auburn in the first round last season, 13-7. Auburn finished 1-2 at the tournament.

The double-elimination tournament runs through Friday at the Bill Smith Softball Complex in Hastings. Follow Auburn through the state tournament with News Channel Nebraska. Fans can listen to each game on B103 (103.1 FM, B103.fm and ncnsportsnow.com).

No school Wednesday and Thursday in Auburn

AUBURN – With the Auburn softball team qualifying for their third consecutive state tournament, school officials have announced the cancellations of classes on Wednesday and Thursday.

The move was made for students, staff and parents wanting to attend the NSAA event at the Bill Smith Softball Complex in Hastings.

A decision on Friday will be made on Thursday, depending on how the team does on the first two days of the state championships.
