SHICKLEY – Bruning-Davenport/Shickley looked unstoppable Monday night as they blew out Falls City Sacred Heart 50-16 in a Class D2 state semifinal.

The Eagles opened up an early lead on a three yard touchdown pass from John Christensen to Holden Stengel. Then Thomas Mick got an interception and a long return off Sacred Heart quarterback Drew Bippes to set himself up for a 14-yard touchdown run to make it 14-0 in the first quarter.

Sacred Heart’s offense responded with a 15 play drive that ended in a nine yard touchdown pass from Bippes to Jake Hoy to make it 14-8, but that was as close as the Irish got.

Christensen scored on runs of 33 and 3 yards then hit Caden Norder for a five yard touchdown to open a 36-8 lead heading into halftime. In the second half he hit Karson Dickson for a score and a 32-yard Garrett Schardt run capped off the scoring for BDS.

Sacred Heart got on the board one last time on a six yard touchdown run by Hoy with 13 seconds remaining.

Christensen had another big offensive day for BDS with 155 rushing yards and two touchdowns. He also completed 9-of-11 passes for 131 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions. Dickson was his top receiver with three catches for 74 yards and a score.

Bippes led Sacred Heart with 72 yards rushing. He was 16-for-28 through the air for 107 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. Hoy had 9 grabs for 75 yards and a score.

BDS avenges last year’s semifinal loss to Sacred Heart and moves on to the state championship game. Their opponent will be Blue Hill, who defeated Mullen 42-30.

BDS and Blue Hill will face off Monday, Nov. 20 at Memorial Stadium for the D2 championship. Kickoff will be at 2:45 and the game will be broadcast on Ol’ Red 99.5 and ncnsportsnow.com.
