NEBRASKA CITY, Neb. – Awards, a trip to Europe and live performances. What one actor or actress would like to do in a lifetime, Piper Monson is doing in one summer.
The Lourdes Central Catholic junior-to-be was one of ten students across the state to receive the “Outstanding Actress in a Lead Role” award at the Nebraska High School Theater Awards on June 8; her and four other Lourdes students traveled to Europe to tour the country and perform with the Nebraska Ambassadors of Music; and she was selected to participate in the Nebraska All-State Musical’s summer production of “Pippin” on July 11 at Doane University.
Her summer isn’t slowing down either. On July 21-23, 27-30 and Aug. 4-5, Monson will be performing in Monty Python’s “SPAMALOT” at the Lofte Community Theater in Manley, Neb.
Monson says her love of music and acting started when she was watching “Barbie Swan Lake” at the age of three.
“I would dance around my living room and so, my mom put me in dance classes right away. After that, I just started seeing shows with my mom and then I got really interested. From there I started performing with Missoula Children’s Theater, the traveling company, and then after that it just went onto bigger and better things.”
As her acting career continues to progress, she has begun auditioning for shows in Lincoln and Omaha.
Now with young kids looking up to her, as she looked up to former classmate Marissa Galardi, Monson says if you want to get into acting and singing, don’t be afraid and just go for it.
“It’s all about being goofy and being your biggest self. If you think you’re overdoing it, you’re probably not. So, just have fun. That’s the biggest thing I can say.”
Monson says she would love to continue her performance career after high school and college. She says her goal is to be a professional stage actress with an emphasis in musical theater.
