City Council Helps NC Police Juggle Summer Roster

NEBRASKA CITY—City commissioners agreed Monday night to help Nebraska City police juggle their roster this summer.

Police Chief Dave Lacy said it’s helpful to have authority to hire a part-time officer.

Lacy: “Not to the fact that we’re truly short handed, but we have one officer that has not obtained any training yet, so we do not put him on the street. We have another officer that will be attending several military callbacks, and then we have a couple months of vacation time coming up.”

Lacy expects to schedule for about 48 weeks of vacation this summer. The city will have the help of Officer Jeremiah Campbell, who was sworn in during Monday’s meeting. The Nebraska City High School graduate will be attending the Law Enforcement Academy in Grand Island.
