Downtown Music Proposed For Nebraska City

NEBRASKA CITY – City commissioners gave their approval for the use of downtown light poles for a public speaker system intended to broadcast music for outdoor visitors.

Nebraska City Tourism and Commerce Director Amy Allgood said partnering with News Channel Nebraska will avoid additional fees for broadcast music and storing the equipment. The outdoor sound system will use wireless transmission equipment so that each speaker can be individually controlled for volume.

Mark Kattelman of Nebraska City Nutrition said the speakers can be lowered for events, such as downtown movies, or concentrated on one block for an event like the farmers market. The idea is for music from 12th Street to Fifth Street.

Kattelman: “The design is to enhance the downtown experience for our tourists and for our public, to enhance and make us a neater destination to come check out. Enjoy the music while you’re downtown, you know, bring them in, keep them downtown here longer.”

Allgood said the design committee is seeking project funding.
