PERU, Neb. – Peru State’s three fullbacks, Sean Van Briesen, Tajh Eaddy and DeOndrae Mayo, combined for 215 rushing yards and four touchdowns, and the Bobcats defeated Central Methodist, 40-20, Saturday night at the Oak Bowl in Peru.
Mayo finished with 10 carries for 75 yards and a touchdown. Van Briesen added two touchdowns on nine carries and 74 yards, including a 31-yard touchdown and an 18-yard score. Eaddy had 5 carries for 66 yards and a score.
Van Briesen says practice this week was more intense after the team felt fatigued after their 31-14 win over Avila last weekend.
“After last week you could tell we were a little tired, didn’t finish the game, didn’t start off right. This week, we exploded right off the ball, we practiced everyday, we worked all four quarters and overtime. Just got conditioning down.”
The Bobcats racked-up 309 rushing yards and finished with 416 total yards.
Senior quarterback Travis Carnahan threw the ball only five times, completing three passes for 95 yards. Two of the passes resulted in touchdowns to senior receiver Jake Coughlin, including a 26-yard strike to end the first half. Coughlin caught two passes for 66 yards.
Peru State improves to 2-0 on the season and will hit the road for the first time next weekend. The Bobcats play Evangel (0-2) on Saturday at 6 p.m. Coverage on KNCY 1600 AM, 105.5 FM and ncn21.com begins at 5:30.
