ALLIANCE, Neb. – The Nebraska City American Legion Baseball team won their first state tournament game since 2010 Saturday morning in Alliance.
The Post 8 Seniors defeated Blair, 11-0 in five innings, at Bower-Shankland Field as two pitchers combined to throw a shutout. Trey Denniston induced a groundout from Dylan Rahlfs to end the game.
Nebraska City took an early lead in the first inning on an RBI single from Garrett Bassinger. They would add three-more runs in the fourth inning.
Bassinger earned the win on the mound. He threw four shutout innings, allowed just two hits and finished with three strikeouts.
Tyler Garder took the loss for Blair. He went two innings, surrendered eight runs, eight hits and struck out three.
Nebraska City finished with 12 total hits. Brennen Bales led the team at the plate. He finished 3-4 with a double, and RBI and a run scored.
The Post 8 Seniors (25-5) will play Omaha Roncalli in the second round Sunday afternoon at 5 p.m. CT, 4 p.m. MT. Blair drops to an elimination game against McCook at 11 a.m. CT, 10 a.m. Sunday.
