Ian Steinmeyer’s No-Hitter Advances Waverly to Quarterfinals

NEBRASKA CITY, Neb. – The game may have lasted only five innings, but Ian Steinmeyer helped Waverly advance to the quarterfinals of the Class B Junior Legion State Baseball Tournament by throwing a no-hitter against Nebraska City.

Steinmeyer struck out seven and gave up one run on a bases loaded walk in the 11-1 victory at Clemmy Holmes Field in Nebraska City.

Four walks with the bases loaded in the opening inning accounted for Waverly’s first four runs. They would score four more runs in fourth on an error, a single by Porter Burkland and a wild pitch. Three runs would cross the plate in the bottom 5th and the 10-run rule was implemented, ending the contest after five innings.

Trenton Fahey suffered the loss for Nebraska City. He pitched two-thirds of an inning, surrendering four runs on just one hit, while walking four.

Waverly and Springfield will play in the quarterfinals at 8 p.m. on Monday, while Nebraska City (28-3) will meet Bennington (28-6) in an elimination game at 5 p.m.
