JOHNSON – A year after finishing third in Class D1, the Johnson-Brock boys basketball returns to the Nebraska School Activities Association state tournament for the second straight season – only this time in Class D2.

The No. 5 Eagles (21-4), in their eighth appearance, are seeking a football-basketball double title. They’ll meet No. 4 Humphrey St. Francis (22-4) in the quarterfinals at 9 a.m. Thursday at Lincoln Northeast High School. They beat the Flyers in the football semifinals with many of the same players.

Ty Hahn averages 15.8 points a game for coach Lucas Dalinghaus, Kaden Glynn adds 15.8 and Cole Fossenbarger chips in 13.4. They average a total of 63.1 points per game.

“They know where to find each other. They know where the open looks are. They kind of know the tendency of each other and naturally help. Just being unselfish, working the ball around, finding the open guy and finding the guy that can take the best shot. That’s really contributed a lot to our success this season.”

If Johnson-Brock can finish the football-basketball double title, it would be their first hoops championship since 1998.

Thursday’s quarterfinal game will be carried on Today’s Best Country, B103 (103.1 FM, b103.fm).
