NEBRASKA CITY – Mayhew Cabin and Phi Alpha Theta social science club will host speaker Barry Jurgensen in honor of Black History Month.
Jurgensen will present “Forever Free: Walk Into History” at the CATS conference room at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 7.
Jurgensen, who was inspired by students as a history teacher at Arlington, did two walks to retrace the route of escaping slaves in the late 1850s.
He walked the 527 mile path taken by Cecilia and Eliza, who were freedom seekers from Nebraska City. He completed the walk in 32 days on July 2, 2016.
