WEEPING WATER – What started out as a shootout quickly turned into a 70-22 blowout win for Lourdes Central Catholic in their regular season finale against Weeping Water.
The Indians took the opening kickoff and marched right down the field, taking a 6-0 lead on a Hunter Mortimer 9 yard scoring dash. The Knights answered immediately with a touchdown drive of their own, capped off by Andrew Aldana taking it in from 10 yards out for an 8-6 advantage.
From there, it was all Lourdes Central Catholic. The Knights scored on every possession of the 1st half and most of their series in the 2nd half as well. The Aldana brothers finished with nearly 200 yards on the ground — 148 yards and 4 touchdowns for Andrew, 45 yards and 2 scores for Aidan.
And what a night for WR/QB Blake Miller. He scored on a 19-yard reception from QB Colter Fulton, saved his team from a safety by scooping up a low snap that went into the end zone and getting it back out onto the field of play, and made an acrobatic one-handed highlight-reel interception that prevented a Weeping Water easy score.
Kick returner Cristian Watkins and backup running back Joey Kearney each chipped in with a touchdown of their own, as Lourdes Central Catholic ran away with it, leading 24-6 at the end of the 1st quarter and 54-6 at halftime.
The Knights finish the season 5-3, 4-0 in the district, and await news this weekend of their postseason fate. Weeping Water closes out the season at 4-4, 1-3 in the district.
