NEBRASKA CITY – Lourdes Central Catholic freshman Gina McGowen and sophomores Ivye Meyer and Libby Baumert are a few of the underclassman who have made an impact early this season for the Knights’ girls basketball team.
McGowen had a double-double, 16 points and 12 rebounds, in Friday’s 55-30 win over HTRS. Meyer chipped in 15 points and 5 rebounds, and Baumert added 12 points and 4 boards.
Head coach Clay Carlton says he is happy with individuals who have stepped up so far this season.
“We got a lot of people stepping up. The young girls have been key for us. They’re are a lot of sophomores and freshman, and a couple juniors there. A lot of those girls, typically, would not be playing this early in their careers, but we have low numbers in our senior and junior class, and they’re getting a lot more experience.”
Another sophomore, Elaina Madison, finished with 12 rebounds vs. the Titans.
Nebraska City Lourdes has three games this week, starting tonight (Tuesday) at Pawnee City. They will host Archbishop Bergan on Friday and travel to Johnson on Saturday to play Johnson-Brock.
Friday’s match-up with Bergan will air on KNCY 1600 AM, 105.5 FM and ncn21.com, beginning at 5:30 p.m.
