National Guard Still Volunteering For AppleJack Duties

NEBRASKA CITY – The question of what is to become of the National Guard Armory in Nebraska City goes unanswered this week, but for now we know what has happened to the 192ndthat had been stationed there.

There has been no official comment on the issue, but  sources within the 192nd say that they have been relocated to Omaha, where they are now stationed with their higher headquarters.

While they have been moved out of Nebraska City, they still plan on supporting the community and continue to help with local festivals such as AppleJack. Approval has been given for the 192nd to help for the next two years.

This new came as quite a relief to NCTC’s director Amy Allgood.

Allgood: “It’s devastating, absolutely that they are leaving Nebraska City because we worked with them, they were here, we had people here all the time. We are really confident with them that even though they are not home here in Nebraska City our partnership with them will remain strong.”

The 2015 AppleJack Parade experienced logistical problems due to a high number of visitors driving in residential areas and clogging normal parade staging areas. National guardsmen volunteers have helped keep the parade flowing smoothly.
