PLATTEVIEW, Neb. – The Nebraska City girls cross country team placed four runners in the top-10 and the Pioneers won their first team title in 16 years Monday at the Platteview Invitational.

Three freshman led Nebraska City, including a runner-up finish from Chloe Schaulis in 23:29. She finished behind Platteview sophomore Madison Nash, who claimed the individual title in 21:38.

Schaulis edged teammate Abbie Heiser, who finished third with a time of 23:31. Brianna Fulton ran the 5K course in 24:44 to finish ninth. Senior Jessinia Hincapie secured the tenth-place medal in a time of 24:53.

Pioneers Head Coach Ron Schaulis says the team title helps the girls as they prepare for the conference and district meets.

“The last few years, we’ve been down a little bit. Here with a big jump right before conference and districts it’s got to really help them, give them a lot of confidence. They’ve beaten some people. We’ve continued to beat people we lost to earlier in the year. Some of those who are freshman are running more like sophomore and juniors now.”

The Nebraska City boys team finished sixth and were led by sophomore James Kearney. He finished fourth in a time of 19:24.

Southwest Iowa junior Adam Thompson ran to a runner-up finish with a time of 18:46, behind Boys Town senior Jason Landin, who finished in a time of 18:10. Southwest Iowa finished third as a team.

Nebraska City and Plattsmouth will compete in the Eastern Midlands Conference meet Wednesday at Pioneer Golf Course in Lincoln. The meet was originally scheduled for Thursday, but was moved because of the impending weather forecast.
