Nebraska City man dies in grain bin accident

UNADILLA — Dennis Meyer, a 69-year-old Nebraska City man, died in a grain bin accident Saturday afternoon at farm northeast of Unadilla.

A press release from the Otoe County Sheriff’s Office says Meyer had climbed into the bin to clear a jammed auger.

A man outside the bin lost contact with him and called 911 about 2:45 p.m.

Rescue workers from  Syracuse, Dunbar and Unadilla searched for the missing man and cut away openings on the side of the grain bin to help remove the beans inside.

They found the victim inside and declared him dead, said the sheriff’s office, which is investigating the death. An autopsy was ordered.
