WAHOO – Sure, we may only be one week into the high school football season, but do you know who’s at the top of the Class C1 power point standings?

Nebraska City.

Senior quarterback Bryce Levy was 7-13 for 171 yards a touchdown, along with 11 carries for 142 yards and three touchdowns on the ground, and the Pioneers defeated Schuyler, 41-8, on Aug. 24. It was the school’s first win since Oct. 14, 2016.

Huskerland Prep Report Publisher Bob Jensen says for all the trouble Nebraska City has had on the football field in recent memory, “to score all those points had to be a great night from start to finish.”

He believes the Pioneers will really learn about themselves when they travel to Wahoo on Friday to play the Warriors, ranked #3 in Class C1.

“Wahoo beat Wayne, 16-0. In the world of high school football, that’s not a lopsided score by any stretch. Wayne did win seven games, including a playoff game, last year. I expected more out of Wahoo and it’s very possible we could get it on Friday.”

Jensen highlights Wahoo players Jack Sutton – plays on both offensive and defensive lines – and Sam Kolterman – a fantastic linebacker – as player to watch this week. Both players are defending state wrestling champions and Jensen believes both will be playing college football in the near future.

Nebraska City and Wahoo kickoff at 7 p.m. and the game will air live on Otoe County Country (KNCY 1600 AM, 105.5 FM, and
