BEATRICE – Thirty-four persons from fifteen countries became new United States Citizens on Flag Day. A ceremony was held at the Education Center of the Homestead National Monument of America, west of Beatrice. U.S. District Judge John Gerrard presided over a ceremony which included reading a roll call of the names of people who have qualified to become citizens of this country. Judge Gerrard reminded them that being new citizens gives them opportunity to succeed and enjoy liberty.

Judy Anderson sang patriotic music for the occasion. Homestead National Monument of America Superintendent Mark Engler welcomed the new citizens to the Homestead, and messages of congratulations were given by staff members of Nebraska’s Congressional Delegation.
