Peru State men’s basketball falls short against William Carey in first round of NAIA tournament

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A late rally by Peru State wasn’t enough as the Bobcats saw their season end with a 95-89 loss to William Carey (Miss.) in the opening round of the NAIA Division I men’s basketball tournament.

Peru State was within 48-45 early in the second half when William Carey went on a 13-2 run. The advantage stayed in double digits most of the half and Peru never closer than six the rest of the way.

Lyle Hexom led Peru State with 30 point and 10 rebounds, the 20th double-double of the season for the Omaha South graduate. Brandon Jones added 21 points, eight rebounds and five assists.

Peru State finishes the season at 23-11.
