Peru State’s run at national tournament ends in second round

KANSAS CITY – Brandon Moss had a game-high 24 points and LSU Alexandria (La.) eliminated the Peru State College men’s basketball team from the NAIA National Tournament with a 98-77 win Friday afternoon at the Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City.

Moss finished with seven rebounds and three assists. Teammate Jordin Williams added 20 points. Alexandria shot 54.8 percent from the field and built a 14-point lead by halftime.

Senior LJ Westbrook led the Bobcats with 17 points, five rebounds and four assists. He was 9-10 at the free throw line. Nolan Cass (16), Quantice Hunter (11) and Terry Moore, Jr, (11) all finished in double-figures. But the Bobcats shot just 36.3 percent from the field.

Peru State, which won its first national tournament game since 1962 on Thursday over top-seed The Master’s, finishes the season 22-15.

LSU Alexandria’s (27-7) scored 52 points off the bench and had 54 points in the paint. They will play Georgetown (Ky) in the Naismith Bracket final on Saturday.
