NEBRASKA CITY – The Nebraska City volleyball team wasted no time getting on the court for their first practice of 2018 early Monday morning.
Monday is the official start of fall practice for all fall sports teams, according to the Nebraska School Activities Association.
Head Coach Jordan Broady says the team is so excited for the upcoming season, they wanted to get on the floor right at midnight.
“The girls have worked their butts off all summer. They’ve been in the gym conditioning with me this summer. We wanted to get a jump start on it as fast as possible. Something fun for them to do. They’re excited.”
After the hour and a half practice, team members cleaned up and prepared to stay the night in the gym. Nebraska City will enjoy a homemade team breakfast from Pioneer parents before practicing again at 9:30.
As she begins her third season at the helm, Broady believes the team is right on schedule with her expectations or even a little ahead.
“They’ve all stepped into big shoes and they’ve filled them. They worked on their own in the offseason and then they came in and did stuff with the team.”
Nebraska City returns all but one starter from last year’s 3-24 team. Aubrey Kasbohm, the lone non-returner, transferred to Syracuse High School.
The Pioneers begin the season at the Plattsmouth Tournament on Aug. 25.
The Plattsmouth football team was also scheduled to practice at midnight Monday.
