Prep football roundup: Auburn gets back on the winning track

PERU – The Auburn football team started fast in a 51-0 win over Lincoln Christian Friday night at the Oak Bowl on the campus of Peru State College.

The game was moved to Peru because of the expected sloppy field conditions on the natural grass at Auburn High School.

Drew Dixon and Baily Darnell scored a combined 22 points in the first quarter.

After the defense stopped the Crusaders on the one-yard line, the Bulldogs drove the ball 99 yards prior to halftime to take a 29-0 lead at the break.

Auburn improves to 7-1 this season and travels to Falls City on Thursday to play the Tigers. The game will air live on Today’s Best Country, B103 (103.1 FM, and

Freeman defeats Syracuse

SYRACUSE – Garrett Lenners and Gabe Eisenbarth each rushed for 79 yards and a touchdown, and the Freeman football team defeated Syracuse Friday night, 26-6.

The Falcons finished with 257 rushing yards and 404 yards of total offense.

Jack Furstenau threw for 135 yards and a touchdown.

Freeman is now 6-2 and will host Conestoga next Friday for their final regular season game.
