SCC Hosts All Star Festivities Over the Weekend

BEATRICE – A storm may have rolled through Beatrice, but that didn’t stop many Southeast Nebraska athletes from showcasing their talents one more time on the SCC Storm’s home floor.

The Truman Center was host to their annual Southeast Nebraska All Star Games.

All three of the contests proved to be blow outs, but it was about these athletes being able to play one final time before heading on to the next level, whether they’re set to play their respected sport in college or just continue their education.

Allison Klipp led her West squad to a four sets to none win in the Volleyball All Star contest. The Meridian graduate will be going to Concordia University in Seward to continue her athletic career.

“I mean, it was bringing back memories. We played against each other, most of them, so it was really fun to play with them in a friendly manner,” said Klipp.

Both basketball contests were dominated by the East teams. The girls would win 101-38, while the boys ran away in their game, 100-62.

Haylee Heits scored 16 points and grabbed six rebounds to help lead the East team over the West. She also got to play with Falls City Sacred Heart teammates Jade Hill and Alexis Barnes one final time. She’s playing basketball for the Doane Tigers.

“We were super successful. I remember when we were undefeated for most of the season, and then we went to the Pioneer Conference Championship and got our first loss. That really helped us. Obviously, winning the state championship, you can’t go out any better way. Then, getting to play with Lexie and Jade in the All Star Game was super fun,” stated Heits.

For some of the athletes, this was a way to put an exclamation point on their high school careers, and say goodbye to the sport they love.

Maggie Funke of Lourdes Central Catholic was a member of the East team in the Volleyball All Star Game. She is beginning a new career, with an accounting major at UNL.

“Yeah, it was fun. You kind of walk off the court and fall, and it’s really sad. Then, when you come to this, it’s pretty fun just to play again.”

Regardless if it was their last time lacing up their shoes, or just a little preparation for what’s next, it was a blessing to cover each one of the athletes participating in the SCC Southeast Nebraska All Star contests one final time.
