NEBRASKA CITY – Defending Class B runner-up Nebraska City will be the second-seed in this weekend’s Area B2 Legion Baseball Tournament in Ashland.
The Post 8 Seniors play #7 Lincoln Christian at 5 p.m. on Friday in the double-elimination bracket.
Springfield earned the top-seed and will open with a bye. Mount Michael is the three-seed, followed by Valparaiso, Ashland and Elmwood-Murdock-Nehawka.
Nebraska City Head Coach James Widoe says if they play well, they can compete with anybody in Class B.
“We have to do our part, obviously, but the talent is there. We will have to throw a ton of strikes and have our offense be able to consistently produce.”
Post 8, seeking their second-straight state tournament birth, lost to Omaha Roncalli in the Class B State Championship last August in Alliance.
Fairbury, Hickman, Crete, Auburn, Syracuse and Falls City will compete the B1 Area Tournament in Beatrice. Plattsmouth will be at the B3 Tournament at Omaha Roncalli.
All area tournaments run from July 20-24. The champions in each area will advance to the 2018 Class B State Tournament in Wayne, July 28 – Aug. 1.
Meanwhile in Class C, Tecumseh and Adams-Sterling will be in Beaver Crossing for the Area C4 Tournament. Louisville plays in Tekamah in the C3 Tournament. The Class C State Tournament will be hosted in Albion.
Full brackets will be released Monday.
