NEBRASKA CITY – The Nebraska City High School Pioneer Speech Team continued its streak of top five finishes at a tournament hosted this weekend at Lincoln Southwest High School.
Nebraska City competed in the Silver Talon tournament with over 750 entries from 34 high schools.
Oliver Borchers-Williams was tournament runner-up in informative speaking, fourth overall in persuasive speaking, and first in merit finals of extemporaneous. He finished fourth in triathlon points.
Chloe Higgins finished sixth overall in program of interpretation and second in honors finals of informative speaking.
In dramatic interpretation, Ashley Robinson was second in honors finals, securing her first bid for the NIETOC national tournament in Denver.
Aubrey Thurman was second in the honors finals round of entertainment speaking.
In merit finals, Makensi Blum finished in second place and freshman Ellie Higgins was fourth in humorous interpretation.
The Pioneer Speakers compete next at Millard West on Friday, Jan. 26, and Lincoln Northeast Saturday, Jan. 27.
