St. Paul Woman Pleads Not Guilty to Incest

GRAND ISLAND, NE — At her Hall County District Court arraignment Tuesday, Samantha Kershner of St. Paul pleaded not guilty to incest.

Police believe that Kershner’s husband, Travis Fieldgrove, is also her father. Kershner, 21, and Fieldgrove, 39, were married Oct. 1 in Hastings.

Both are charged with one count of incest, which is a Class 3 felony.

Kershner’s attorney, Audrey Rowley, requested that the defendant either be released on her own recognizance or that her bond be reduced. Before Tuesday’s arraignment, her bond was $5,000.

Rowley said that Kershner has an aunt in Clay Center and also has relatives in Hastings and Kearney. Rowley said Kershner has little money, no criminal history and is not a flight risk. She has lived in Nebraska her whole life, except for two years, Rowley said.

Hall County District Court Judge Mark Young reduced the bond to $2,500, 10 percent of which is necessary for her release.

Fieldgrove’s bond, meanwhile, is $100,000.

The prosecutor Tuesday was Thomas Helget.

Young scheduled a pretrial hearing for 1:30 p.m. June 3, and a jury trial for 9 a.m. July 8.

Kershner and Fieldgrove also face incest charges in Adams County.
