Tougher opponent: Sacred Heart or Johnson-Brock? Huskerland Bob weighs in

JOHNSON – The Lawrence-Nelson football team is making their second 2+ hour trip of the season to southeast Nebraska to play a top-ten team in Class D2.

The Raiders traveled two and half hours to play No. 2 Falls City Sacred Heart at Jug Brown Stadium in Falls City on Aug. 30. After picking up a win over Diller-Odell, 28-8, at home last week, No. 8 Lawrence-Nelson is back on the road for a two-hour trip to Johnson to play the No. 3 Eagles on Friday.

Huskerland Prep Report Publisher Bob Jensen will be watching to see if the Raiders can finish the job this week. They were tied with the Irish, 6-6, at halftime before losing 34-12 in their season opener.

Jensen says it’s still “scary” to rank anybody ahead of Sacred Heart, but he believes Johnson-Brock is a really tough matchup for Lawrence-Nelson.

“We’ve got Johnson-Brock rated number one for a reason. I think they’re good enough to win (Class) D2. At least as important, I think they’re good enough to beat teams like Lawrence-Nelson and Falls City Sacred Heart. We’re going to find out a little bit this week and we’ll find out a lot more when J-B and Sacred Heart play in the last week.”

When speaking with Jensen this spring, Raiders head coach Brian Blevins didn’t take too long to tell Huskerland Bob about how his team “got done” by the Nebraska School Activities Association.

Lawrence-Nelson (1-1) and Johnson-Brock (2-0) kickoff at 7 p.m. The game will be carried live on Today’s Best Country, B103 (103.1 FM, b103.fm and ncnsportsnow.com).
