UNADILLA – The Village of Unadilla celebrated its 30th annual groundhog day Saturday with a parade, live music, jerky contest and photo opportunities with Unadilla Bill.
The cabbage-loving groundhog’s handler, Bob Brandt, said Unadilla Bill did not see his shadow for the fourth year in a row, once again predicting an early spring.
Brandt, who estimated Unadilla Bill’s accuracy above 75 percent, said the weather has already made a turn for the worse.
Brandt: “I think he may have missed on this year because it has snowed every day since the report.”
Soup winners were as follows:
- Chili — Mary Gardner and Chuck Kreifels
- Other – Lane Rohlfs, Kevin Rohlfs
- Spam – Kathyrn Romine, Steve Cooper
- Jerky – Helen McKenzie, Presley Wilhelm
