Video Catches Massive Snow Geese Landing At Talmage

TALMAGE – While not quite the numbers of snow geese reported this month at the Loess Bluff National Wildlife Refuge near near Mound City, Tuesday’s windy, snowy day brought an innumerable flock to Talmage.

Peter Read, park ranger at DeSoto National Wildlife Refuge near Missouri Valley, Iowa, said counts of snow geese are higher than in recent years. He said that may be because areas north of Omaha still have frozen lakes and snow-covered fields.

He said the geese are delaying their journey because they need open water to roost and open fields to find food.
