LINCOLN, Neb. – The Falls City Sacred Heart Irish won their 9th state title in school history on Saturday.
Sacred Heart beat Riverside 59-42 in the Class D2 state finals on Saturday night at Pinnacle Bank Arena.
The Irish led virtually the whole game and took a seven-point lead into halftime.
They limited the Chargers, known for their offensive fire power, to just 19 second half points.
The Irish had three players in double figures with Drew Bippes scoring 14 points, Tyler Witt adding 13 and Theo Rohrer contributing 12.
Tredyn Prososki of Riverside led all scorers with 23 points. Joe Bloom added 9.
This is the 9th state title for Sacred Heart and their first since 2008. They join the girls team who claimed the Class D2 state championship last weekend, 57-51, over Humphrey St. Francis. The school also swept the sportsmanship awards.
