Wisner-Pilger Handles Lourdes 42-6 in Opening Round

PLAYER INTERVIEW

WISNER — The Wisner-Pilger Gators beat the Lourdes Central Catholic Knights 42-6 to win their first postseason game since 2005.

The 8-seed vs. 9-seed tilt started with an offensive explosion.  Wisner-Pilger (7-2) quarterback Trevor Styskal scampered into the end zone on the second play from scrimmage to open the scoring.

Then, Lourdes (5-4) answered.  Running back Andrew Aldana ripped off a 53-yard touchdown run on the Knights’ second play of the game to make it 8-6.

The Gators owned the game after that.  They led 20-6 at halftime despite turning the ball over three times.  The score stayed the same until the couple minutes of the third quarter.  Running back Justin Pieper threw a touchdown pass to Dylan Kneifl to extend Wisner-Pilger’s lead to 28-6.

Wisner-Pilger scored a couple more times in the fourth quarter.  Styskal tallied his third rushing TD of the game on a QB keeper and Jacob Borgelt got into the end zone with a scoop and score to finish it off.

The Gators will play the #1 Creighton Bulldogs (9-0) in the second round.
