Behind Knighten, Jablonski, Simmons, Huskers earn first series sweep

LINCOLN — Nebraska earned its first series sweep of the season with a 4-1 victory over New Mexico State on Sunday.

The Huskers (7-16) won both ends of Saturday’s doubleheader before Sunday’s victory in front of 650 at Bowlin Stadium. NU scored in four of its final five at-bats to earn the victory as Alyvia Simmons and MJ Knighten generated enough offense from the top of the order.

Knighten was 3 for 4 with a pair of doubles, two RBIs and a run while Simmons was 2 for 4 with a double, an RBI and two runs.

Kaylan Jablonski improved to 3-8 by allowing one run on four hits in four innings. Cassie McClure picked up her second save of the season with three innings of scoreless, one-hit relief.

Freshman Alexis Perry also had a big day on offense, going 2 for 3 with a walk. The Huskers stranded 12 — New Mexico State stranded 11 — and the committed one error.

NU left for Wichita after the game to prepare for Monday’s 5 p.m. game with the Shockers (15-10).
