Former Husker and four-time world champion Jordan Burroughs lost in the quarterfinals during the opening day of the World Wrestling Championships in Budapest, Hungary, on Saturday.
Burroughs, competing in the 74-kg weight class, advanced through the first two rounds before suffering a 6-5 loss to Zaurbek Sidakov of Russia. Burroughs will compete in Sunday’s repechage rounds.
Competition took place in four freestyle weight classes Saturday and the lone American to make the finals was former Penn State national champion David Taylor at 86 kg.
Also on Sunday, Omaha Skutt graduate and former Iowa All-American Thomas Gilman will compete in the 57-kg weight class.
