Nebraska quarterback Adrian Martinez earned honors from the Big Ten after his performance in a 53-28 victory over Minnesota.
Martinez was named co-Big Ten freshman of the week after completing 25 of 29 passes for 276 yards and three touchdowns, while rushing for 125 yards and another TD.
His completion percentage is the highest in Nebraska history among quarterbacks who threw at least 20 passes in a game, and the 53 points are the most Nebraska has scored in a Big Ten game.
The Huskers finished with 659 yards, the most since the 2014 season opener against Florida Atlantic.
Martinez shared the weekly honor with Purdue freshman receiver Rondale Moore.
Kickoff time, TV information released for Nebraska-Ohio State game
The Nebraska football game against Ohio State in Columbus on Nov. 3 will kick off at 11 a.m. and will be broadcast on Fox.
This will be the first early start between the two teams since Nebraska joined the Big Ten. All four meetings since 2011 have started in primetime.
Nebraska hasn’t beaten Ohio State since 2011. The Buckeyes have won the last three meetings by an average of 42 points.
It will be the second straight morning start for the Huskers. Nebraska kicks off Saturday against Bethune-Cookman at 11 a.m.
Bethune-Cookman has one of nation’s best marching bands, but it won’t make trip to Nebraska
Bethune-Cookman’s football team is visiting Nebraska for the first time this weekend. The school’s famous marching band — which has its own Netflix series — will not be coming, though.
A Nebraska official said Monday that BCU’s band — known as “The Pride” — is not accompanying the football team to Lincoln. An administrative assistant for the BCU band said it was “not financially able” to make the trip.
BCU was a bye-week replacement opponent for the Huskers after thunderstorms canceled the season-opening game against Akron.
The 325-member Bethune-Cookman band includes instrumentalists, a flag corp and dancers. It competes in the Honda Battle of the Bands, and Netflix recently featured it in the series “Marching Orders.”
