Lincoln Pius X senior Charlie Easley has committed to Nebraska as a preferred walk-on.

The 6-foot-2, 190-pound guard announced his decision Monday on Twitter.

“I’m from Lincoln, and (Nebraska) is right in my hometown,” Easley told The World-Herald. “I’m going to go in and work my hardest every day to make the team better.”

Easley also liked everything Husker coach Fred Hoiberg had to say about his potential at NU.

“He said he will give everyone a chance, from scholarship to walk-on,” Easley said. “And if you can shoot, you can play in his system.”

Easley had a decorated high school career at Pius, finishing with the school record for points (1,412). He was named first-team All-Nebraska and led his team to the Class B state title earlier this year.

Easley chose walking on at Nebraska over walking on at Creighton, multiple Division II scholarship offers and late interest from Division I schools South Dakota State, Idaho and SIU-Edwardsville.

At NU, Easley will reunite with longtime AAU teammates Akol Arop of Omaha Creighton Prep and fellow walk-on Jace Piatkowski of Elkhorn South.

“It will definitely be fun getting back and playing with Jace and Akol,” Easley said. “We already have that chemistry down.”
