Nebraska, one of five Big Ten teams in AVCA coaches poll top 10, maintains No. 3 ranking

Nebraska volleyball, coming off two Big Ten wins, maintained its No. 3 ranking in the AVCA coaches poll.

BYU and Stanford were No. 1 and 2, respectively, while Texas and Wisconsin rounded out the top five.

The Huskers (11-1) and Badgers were two of five Big Ten schools in the top 10 and seven that were ranked.

Minnesota and Illinois are No. 6 and 7, and Penn State is No. 9. Purdue and Michigan are ranked No. 16 and 17.

Nebraska defeated both Michigan and Michigan State to open Big Ten play. The Huskers travel to Northwestern and Illinois on Friday and Saturday, respectively.

Mikaela Foecke, Nicklin Hames earn honors

Nebraska’s Mikaela Focke was named Big Ten co-player of the week for the second time this year. The senior outside hitter averaged 4.13 kills and 2.13 digs per set in the Huskers’ two wins.

Nicklin Hames was named Big Ten co-freshman of the week. She averaged 10.5 assists and 3.25 digs per set. She had double-doubles in both of NU’s matches, bringing her season total to seven.
