The Huskers aren’t in the Top 25, but they did receive votes in the preseason coaches poll released Thursday.

Nebraska picked up 23 votes, which puts the Huskers No. 36 among all teams. The Huskers were ranked as high as No. 6 in the coaches poll last season after a 7-0 start.

No. 2 Ohio State is the highest ranked Big Ten team, one of four from the conference in the Top 25. No. 6 Penn State, No. 9 Michigan and No. 10 Wisconsin all cracked the Top 10.

Husker coach Mike Riley has a vote in the coaches poll. Each coach on the voting panel submits a 25-team ballot with 25 points awarded for a first-place selection, 24 points for second-place and so on down to one point for 25th.

The Associated Press preseason rankings will be released on Aug. 21.
