The Huskers are No. 6 in the new poll. BYU is No. 1, with Stanford, Minnesota, Illinois and Texas rounding out the top five.

The Big Ten has seven ranked teams, including Penn State (7), Wisconsin (8), Purdue (12) and Michigan (15). In-state rival Creighton is No. 9.

The Huskers (18-6, 9-5 Big Ten) defeated Penn State in five sets and swept Rutgers last week. NU travels to Iowa and Michigan this week.

Stivrins earns honor

Nebraska sophomore middle blocker Lauren Stivrins was named Big Ten defensive player of the week on Monday.

She had a career-high 10 blocks over Penn State, helping hold the Nittany Lions to a season-low .114 hitting percentage. Stivrins added eight blocks against Rutgers.

Creighton volleyball stays at No. 9 in latest AVCA poll after weekend sweeps

Creighton didn’t lose a set in two Big East road matches, maintaining its No. 9 ranking in the AVCA Top 25.

The Jays (22-4, 14-0 Big East) swept both St. John’s and Seton Hall, extending their winning streak to 14.

BYU kept the top spot, with Stanford, Minnesota, Illinois and Texas rounding out the top five. In-state rival Nebraska is No. 6.

No. 18 Marquette is the only other Big East team ranked.
