BEATRICE – Two terms as a county supervisor will come to an end next week for an Adams man, transitioning to the office of 30th District State Senator.
Myron Dorn will take over for Dr. Roy Baker in the Nebraska Legislature, representing Gage County and the southern part of Lancaster County. A farewell reception will be held immediately following Wednesday’s Gage County Board meeting.
:38 “do watch that”
Looking back over the eight years on the board, his first experience in a paid elected position, Dorn said he’s proud of the board’s effort and public acceptance of developing a good road system.
:31 “long term”
In addition to the time taken to address the Beatrice Six case and its financial implications, Dorn says one issue he wishes could have been resolved is a long-term solution to the problem of an over-population of inmates straining the county’s detention system.
:19 “go away”
There’s some difference of opinion among board members about building new jail space or continuing to ship prisoners to other facilities.
:08 “a new jail”
When he’s sworn in as a new state senator, Dorn expects to go through a learning process, just like he did when he was elected to the county board.
:31 “with the board”
The reception for Dorn next Wednesday morning will start around 10:30, in the supervisors’ room.
