BEATRICE – If you had to pick someone to be the perfect ambassador for a community, you would look no farther than Norma Lohse.
The Beatrice woman passed away July 4th, at the age of 99. Lohse was a past board member for the Beatrice Chamber of Commerce and received the organization’s Lifetime Achievement Award and Citizenship Award.
Born in Linn, Kansas…Lohse and her late husband moved to Beatrice in 1951.
Norma was recognized as the Beatrice Area Chamber of Commerce Ambassador of the Year three times and earned fourteen stars for her volunteer, good will efforts in the ambassadors’ arm of the organization.
Lohse worked for J.C. Penney in Beatrice for forty years and owned and operated Norma’s Draperies for twenty years. She chaired the Women’s Division of the Beatrice Chamber, served as President of the Beatrice Rose Society and Beatrice Civic Garden Club…and served as Superintendent for Horticulture several years at the Gage County Fair.
A master gardener for two decades, Lohse maintained a rose garden that at one time totaled more than 300 bushes.
The funeral service for Norma Lohse will 10:30 a.m., Monday, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, in Beatrice.
