AUBURN – The Auburn City Council approved the music schedule for Legion Park at its meeting Monday.
The fifth season of summer shows begin this Saturday with accordionist Julia Williams and continues every other Saturday until the Last Minute Band on Aug. 17.
Organizer Kevin Casey said new this year will be the Hayseed Cowboys and Jumpin’ Kate, a popular act in Lincoln and Las Vegas. Returning acts include Jared’s Super Blues Party.
Casey: “We wanted to showcase southeast Nebraska talent and we’re lucky that we’re close enough to Omaha and Lincoln that we can supplement our local talent with talent that is a little farther away.”
Councilwoman Katy Billings recognized that Casey is a “committee of one” and offered to help organize the summer shows in future years.
Casey: “These are all world-class bands. These are professional musicians. You know, it’s not amateur night and they are a lot of fun to hear.”
The council approved $4,500 from the keno fund for the program, which includes re-scheduling the Southeast Community Band from the May 4 rain-out date.
