BEATRICE – A new home built near Beatrice High School that involved building trades students working with a local contractor, has been described by the school superintendent as a great project between school and community.
Superintendent Pat Nauroth says he hopes a similar project will happen in the future. Nine students this year and their instructor, Jim West, worked with Brett Wells Construction and several subcontractors, on the new home west of the House of Orange. An open house was held recently.
Jim West said the project was an awesome experience for the students.
:39 “for those kids”
West says three of the students in the program are doing similar work this summer. Three others plan to go into HVAC study in college.
:10 “right now”
This coming year, thirteen students are planning to participate in the home building course.
:14 “really good”
The project was for students who want to work with their hands, in an occupation. School Board member Lisa Pieper praised the role of contractors in the project with the school.
West says there’s already excitement from the students to see the program continue.
