BEATRICE – A Beatrice man has been arrested for allegedly assaulting a woman and dragging her with his vehicle when her shirt became caught in the door.
Gage County Sheriff’s Deputies say 34-year-old Jaime Harvey was arrested Saturday night, after authorities confirmed there was a valid protection order prohibiting Harvey from contact with the victim.
A sheriff’s investigator was aided by an independent witness account of the incident. It was learned that the woman had been in a car with Harvey, driving in Wymore when the pair began arguing. Authorities say Harvey allegedly began hitting the woman. She attempted to get out of the vehicle but he continued driving, turning off into Blue Springs, continuing to hit her in the face.
Authorities say the victim tried to use her cell phone. During a struggle, the phone dropped to the floor of the car and the female attempted to get out. The driver then grabbed the woman by the shirt, trying to pull her back into the car.
Authorities say the woman’s shirt became caught in the door and Harvey continued driving, dragging the woman for a short distance before her shirt ripped away. Investigators say as the woman was walking to a farm house, Harvey allegedly turned the vehicle around and accelerated toward her. She was able to get to the farm house to receive help.
Officers say the woman had facial abrasions and an injury consistent with road rash, on her side.
Harvey was arrested Saturday night on suspicion of second degree domestic assault and violation of a protection order.
