Nielsen will assist Jason Alexander, of Ord, who will take over the Superintendent’s job when Nauroth retires, this summer. Alexander will make $160,000, annually.  Nielsen will be paid $135,851.  Board of Education members approved the job description for the Assistant Superintendent position, which include curriculum and assessment, some business and personnel responsibilities.  The realignment which trimmed positions from four, to three, is expected to save the district about $120,000, annually, or about 7.26%.

The board also finalized an administrative compensation package granting administrative staff a 2.93% increase for the coming school year.  Also approved were wages and benefits for hourly classified staff positions in the district, which amounts to a 2.92% increase.  Finance Director John Brazell says it is a 34-cent hourly increase in base pay.

The Beatrice School Board has also approved creation of a level-three program for special education services, a move recently discussed in committee after the district noted an increase in learning behavioral issues within the district.  Level three services, offered in kindergarten through 8th grade, have been provided by contracting with outside providers.

A school calendar change was approved by the board, adding six preschool instructional days.  Superintendent Nauroth says part of the change moves up classes to an earlier start, this coming year.

The community preschool change does NOT alter the school calendar for kindergarten through twelfth grades.
