NEBRASKA CITY – Nebraska City commissioners took under advisement Blue Rivers Area Agency’s request for local support of public transportation.
Manager Cliff Lindell said Blue Rivers is seeking a state Transportation Department grant and must ask communities served for funds and local support. He asked Nebraska City for $2,500.
Finance Commissioner Gloria Glover told Lindell she values the services of the public transportation bus, but said the city does not give donations.
City Administrator Grayson Path said public transportation is a valid use of public funds, but the Blue River’s request is for a voluntary contribution. Glover said the matter should be considered during budget work in the fall.
Lindell and manager Bobbi Lechner told commissioners public transportation is provided within the city, as well as Dunbar, Union, Lincoln and Omaha.
He said they also plan to expand their service to bring Peru State College students to Auburn and Nebraska City.
