Cooper Nuclear Station Reports ‘Unusual Event’

AUBURN –  Nebraska Public Power District is reporting an  “unusual event” this morning after a maintenance crew discovered a hydrogen leak on the non-nuclear system.

The leak was discovered in the main plant area at 11:18 a.m. and NPPD reports that repairs are underway.

NPPD: “The plant is stable and continues to operate at this time. There is no threat to the public. NPPD has notified the appropriate local, county, state and federal agencies.”

A notice of unusual event indicate a potential degradation in the level of safety at the station. It is considered the least serious of plant emergencies.

Cooper Nuclear Station is located three miles southeast of Brownville.
